New Videos Introduce Visitors to Freshkills Park

Are you new to Freshkills Park and want to learn a little bit more about the exciting changes occurring at what was once the world’s largest landfill? Freshkills Park is excited to announce the release of new videos that introduce newcomers to the park in three themes: “Welcome”, “Freshkills Park Science and Research Program”, and “Landfill Infrastructure at Freshkills Park”. Featuring compilations of behind-the-scenes footage of wildlife, landfill capping, and community events occurring at Freshkills Park, these new videos provide a snapshot of what Freshkills Park is and what it will be as it continues to develop.

Freshkills Park is thankful to photographer/videographer Michael McWeeney, a longtime visitor of the park and contributor to our Capturing Change series, for filming and editing the videos under the supervision of Freshkills Park Staff. We are also very thankful to our donors who helped make this project a reality. The videos were made possible through your generous contributions and dedication to the cause.

The videos will be available on our website under the Education Program tab for teachers to use as an introduction to Freshkills Park. They will also be used for community outreach purposes and inside of our Mobile Education Lab. As Freshkills Park moves forward into its next phases of development and broadens its public reach, an expanding library of video content and other educational resources will serve as essential tools.
