Capturing Change: Freshkills Park Photographs

On view June 15 – September 8, 2019

For years, photographers have been visiting closed sections of Freshkills Park to document the unique combination of nature and infrastructure. Their work explores the variety of changes taking place as habitats are established and the park is built in phases over decades.

This exhibition celebrates their work, featuring photographers who submitted to the 2018 Capturing Change Photography Contest. The collection spans seasons and locations across the site. Viewed together, the images produce a textured snapshot of the project at this point in its progression from landfill to parkland.

Photographers: Mohamed Aboshihata, Dani Alexander, Andrea Callard, Jo Cavallo, Stephanie DiAngelo, Jane Schreibman, Jon Sobel, Sean Sweeney, Lynette Thompson, Bernt von Glasenapp, Jesse Webster.
