Field Trip to Freshkills Park

Date: Friday, June 29th

Timing and Logistics:

• Take the 8:30am ferry departing from Whitehall Terminal
  • Conference organizers will be on the same ferry — look for bright blue Freshkills Park t-shirts
• The ferry will arrive to St. George, Staten Island just before 9am
• Guests will follow signs when exiting the ferry for Ramp E/Taxi Stand, which is to the right when entering the terminal space
• Look for people in blue Freshkills Park t-shirts who will be boarding attendees onto buses to Freshkills Park
• Attendees will need to sign waivers during the bus trip for access into Freshkills Park
• We will return to the St. George ferry terminal for the 11:30am ferry back to Manhattan, and attendees should take the subway from there back to the main conference space at NYU-ITP

Considerations

• There is no shade at Freshkills Park, so dress for the heat and sun – hats & sunblock are recommended
• Bring water and a snack
• We will be walking to the top of one of the former landfill mounds — this involves walking up a 0.5 mile gravel path (1 mile total of walking)
• Bug spray is recommended — please stay on the path and do not enter the grasslands as ticks are prevalent
• We will not be stopping at a restroom during the field trip, so please use the restroom on the ferry before disembarking at St. George
