Field Trip to Freshkills Park

Date: Friday, June 29th

Timing and Logistics:

Take the 8:30am ferry departing from Whitehall Terminal
- Conference organizers will be on the same ferry — look for bright blue Freshkills Park t-shirts
The ferry will arrive to St. George, Staten Island just before 9am
Guests will follow signs when exiting the ferry for Ramp E/Taxi Stand, which is to the right when entering the terminal space
Look for people in blue Freshkills Park t-shirts who will be boarding attendees onto buses to Freshkills Park
Attendees will need to sign waivers during the bus trip for access into Freshkills Park
We will return to the St. George ferry terminal for the 11:30am ferry back to Manhattan, and attendees should take the subway from there back to the main conference space at NYU-ITP

Considerations

There is no shade at Freshkills Park, so dress for the heat and sun – hats & sunblock are recommended
Bring water and a snack
We will be walking to the top of one of the former landfill mounds — this involves walking up a 0.5 mile gravel path (1 mile total of walking)
Bug spray is recommended — please stay on the path and do not enter the grasslands as ticks are prevalent
We will not be stopping at a restroom during the field trip, so please use the restroom on the ferry before disembarking at St. George
