“Fantastic Voyage” Workshop and Garden Build
This hands-on workshop will use the backdrop of the Fantastic Voyage Exhibition to explore the history of the Green Revolution and the rise of industrial food production. We will take a closer look at how food has migrated from a source of health and wellness to a co-opted capitalist tool designed to create a dependency on (and some would say addiction to) processed foods and all of its sugar, salt and fat configurations. Participants will assist in building the vegetable garden and learn how to make a hibiscus sports drink and pomegranate-cherry gummies as examples of regaining a comprehensive understanding of food for sale versus the food we grow and/or prepare ourselves.
This workshop is offered as part of the Fantastic Voyage Exhibition by artists Stefani Bardin and Assaf Tamir. The immersive installation at the Freshkills Park Studio + Gallery explores the role of food production in our personal health and the health of the environment.
