Earth Day & Climate Hike

Greenbelt Nature Walk

Join the Freshkills Park Alliance for an Earth Day & Climate Hike while exploring the story of Freshkills Park’s dynamic past, present, or future. On this moderate 2-hour guided hike, we will learn about the impacts of climate change and how Freshkills Park will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and buffer against some of the worst climate change impacts to create a more climate resilient Staten Island and NYC.

Plan Ahead: Wear sturdy shoes for walking. Please also bring water and sunblock and be prepared to spend 2 hours outside in the sun.

Location: We will meet across from the composting comfort stations (restrooms) in North Park Phase 1. Gates to North Park Phase 1 are located at 350 Wild Ave (parking lot entrance) and at Schmul Park (behind the baseball field). From here, we will walk together to North Mound. Directions: https://freshkillspark.org/design-construction/north-park-phase-1

Accessibility: We will be walking approximately 1-mile on a gravel trail, which includes elevation and can be uneven at times. If you have any accessibility needs, please let us know in advance so we can best accommodate you.
