City of Forest: Freshkills Park Forest and Trail Stewardship
Join the Freshkills Park Alliance and NYC Parks for a stewardship volunteer project at FKO + Studio Gallery. This volunteer project will assist in making Freshkills Park trails more accessible by maintaining trails, gardens, structures and removing invasive plant species.
Location: 2240 Richmond Ave. Staten Island NY, 10314
Gear: Wear sturdy, closed toe-shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy. Wear clothes that can get dirty. Long pants highly recommended. Please also bring water, snack and sunblock. PPE will be provided and are required during the project.
Technology: Feel free to take photos but consider carefully before bringing any electronic devices with you as they may possibly get wet, damaged, or dropped during the project.
Restrictions: You will be asked to sign an activity waiver before participating in the program. Participants must be Ages 16+
Cancellation: This event will be canceled if registration is too low, or if there is a 60% or greater chance of rain on the day of the event. You will be asked to confirm your registration by email before the event. As we receive cancellations, names will be added from the waitlist. Can’t make it for Freshkills Trail Stewardship Project? You can still help by promoting our volunteer projects with your friends and neighbors! Students can receive credit for community service hours. We will also be adding more volunteer opportunities as the season continues.
What is City of Forest Day?
Presented by Forest for All NYC in partnership with the Parks and Open Space Partners – NYC Coalition and NYC Parks, City of Forest Day is an annual day of activities across the city to raise awareness of the importance of the New York City urban forest, and the essential role New Yorkers play every day in caring for the “lungs” of our city.
