Transportation Alternatives’ April 17th “Bike the Boros: Staten Island” event will include special access to Freshkills Park. Those who enjoyed the popular Tour de Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island series will love the new “Bike the Boros” series. This series is built on the same premise, to celebrate NYC streets by biking on them with gusto, with each event covering a different borough.

The Staten Island event, scheduled for Sunday April 17th, is a 50 mile adventure through the hills, shores and byways of Staten Island. The tour will include access to Freshkills Park and a finish festival in the backyard of Flagship Brewery. Transportation Alternatives will have a small army of food trucks assembled at the finish fest to help riders refuel, and everyone who rides the tour gets a free beer or soft drink.

Transportation Alternatives’ “Bike the Boros” rides are fundraisers for Transportation Alternatives’ life-saving work. The organization is fighting for changes to infrastructure and enforcement that will reduce speeding and traffic crashes. In 2015, there were 10,065 pedestrians and 4,273 cyclists injured in traffic. That same year, there were 129 pedestrians and 15 cyclists killed in traffic.

Transportation Alternatives is a 501(c)3 non-profit charity, and New York City’s leading advocate for safe streets. “Bike the Boros” is designed to introduce people to the life-saving work the organization is doing on NYC streets.
