Public art project brings more keys to the City

Through July 5th, New Yorkers are invited to play any of the 60 donated and artist-decorated pianos that have recently appeared in public locations across the city.  Play Me, I’m Yours is the brainchild of British artist Luke Jerram, who has promoted and managed the project since its inception in 2008 and has since placed pianos in cities all over the world.   In New York City, Play Me, I’m Yours is sponsored by arts advocacy group Sing for Hope.  Pianos can be found in locations as various as Times Square, the South Street Seaport Museum, the Staten Island Zoo, Brooklyn Bridge Park and many, many others throughout all five boroughs.  Visitors to the project’s website can can share their comments and upload videos and photos.  When the project is over, pianos will be donated to local schools and community groups.

Between this project and Paul Ramirez Jonas’ Key to the City, public spaces in New York are really being celebrated this summer.
