Not par for the course

A series of wowzers: the largest green roof in the US!  Which doubles as a driving range!  And sits atop a water treatment facility!  The $2.1 billion dollar Croton Water Filtration Plant in the Bronx was designed by  Grimshaw Architects, landscape architect Ken Smith and green roof gurus Rana Creek.  Tully Construction has posted some pictures of the work site.  The nine-acre roof/range will integrate stormwater capture and irrigation systems for the adjacent Mosholu Golf Course, part of Van Cortlandt Park, where the plant is sited.  Completion is scheduled for 2012.

Golf courses haven’t exactly been known as environmental blessings in the past, but there have been recent efforts to revise that negative image.  Maybe this project will help in that effort and drive home possibilities for multi-performance landscapes.
