Meet Our Marathon Runners!
The Freshkills Park Alliance is proud to be an official charity partner for the TCS New York City Marathon for the first time! The Freshkills Park Alliance Charity Team is made up of three runners who are fundraising for the Alliance. Funds will go towards increased public access to the park, as well as environmental research and ecological restoration projects.

Eileen Harrington
Eileen Harrington a native of Ireland, has lived in the US for many years and on Staten Island for 20+ years. She left the midtown corporate world in 2020 and currently works as a real estate agent for Tom Crimmins Realty and as a property manager in her home neighborhood of St. George. She is also a community leader and past president of the St. George Civic Association. Eileen loves the outdoors and is an avid runner and cyclist. She is excited to be a part of the Freshkills Park NYC marathon team and looks forward to raising funds for this unique and special place!
Erik Strommen

Born and raised in Staten Island, Erik Strommen grew up in the borough’s parks –shooting hoops, running trails, and building a lifelong connection to the green spaces around him. A graduate of St. Peter’s Boys High School and Manhattan College, he now works as a Water Resource Civil Engineer with H2M Architects + Engineers. Committed to promoting a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient community for all, Erik brings that mission into both his engineering work and his community efforts. He is running the NYC Marathon on behalf of the Staten Island Park Alliance to give back to the community and parks that shaped his childhood, and to support the transformation of the former Staten Island landfill into one of New York City’s largest and most meaningful public spaces.
Frank Scarangello

Frank Scarangello is a Staten Island native and a graduate of Staten Island Academy (2016). He holds a degree in Economics from Michigan State University and a degree in Environmental Control Technology from New York City College of Technology
(City Tech). Frank currently works at Scaran Heating & amp; Air Conditioning, where he manages software systems, supports the service department, and assists with customer relations. An avid runner and outdoorsman, he enjoys exploring Staten Island’s parks and is proud to fundraise for Freshkills Park Alliance through his participation in the New York City Marathon.
