Education Docent Orientation
About the Education Docent Program:
Freshkills Park offers an array of programming opportunities in art, science, education, recreation, and volunteer stewardship to the public, schools, community organizations, and more. Docents will assist with educational programming at Freshkills Park to increase public access and engagement, supporting the growth of environmental stewards.
Docents will receive training through orientations, shadowing, and scheduled programs to support educational programming at Freshkills Park. Having Docents to support programs and eventually co-lead programs will significantly increase FKPA’s ability to host educational programming and complete volunteer stewardship projects.
After learning about the park and the FKPA approach to programming, Docents will assist with co-leading a variety of programs at Freshkills Park and conducting outreach to schools and community groups. Docents will also be able to assist with large-scale events and their coordination, such as the Gravel Grinder Bike Race, Open-House New York Weekend, and more.
If interested click here to apply and we will contact you regarding Orientation!
Orientation will be held from 12PM – 2PM on Sunday, April 7th. Lunch will be provided.
If you are interested in becoming an Education Docent, but cannot make orientation, please still apply! Questions can be directed to serickson@freshkillspark.org
