Christopher Benbow
Christopher Benbow graduated from Hampshire College with a B.A. in Political Science and a concentration in Pre-Law. He then went on to earn his J.D. from New York Law School and received an award for having the highest grade in constitutional law.
His political and legal background includes working for Representative William F. Ryan, the chief sponsor of the bill that created the Gateway National Recreation Area, working at the office of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison in Midtown, becoming a law clerk for Hon. Manuel L. Real, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in L.A., Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, then the U.S. Trustee’s Los Angeles. Benbow then returned to Staten Island and worked in the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development, before becoming a court attorney to a New York state Supreme Court justice in Brooklyn.
For over 11 years, Christopher has been working in Manhattan at the Appellate Division, First Department, as a law clerk. Christopher and Nancy, his wife, also co-authored the book, “Cabins, Collages and Mansions” after visiting the Woodrow Wilson House in D.C., along with the children’s book, “The ABCs of Staten Island.” The couple has plans to write future children’s books.
Christopher has not only been a dedicated member of the Staten Island Democratic Association for 45 years but has been active on the board of directors of Staten Island Arts, the board of directors of the Greenbelt Conservancy, and the board of trustees of the National Lighthouse Museum for decades. He also sings baritone with the Canterbury Choral Society in Manhattan.
