Habitat Assessment with St. Clare School

 

The Environmental Leaders Fellowship (ELF) Team at St. Clare School comprises dedicated students in grades 6–8 who participate in environmental studies and community science projects during after-school hours and weekends. In Fall of 2024 and Spring of 2025, the team took part in a seasonal comparison study at two unique sites within Freshkills Park: the North Park grasslands and the Studio Gallery wetlands, which features a tidal creek with rich biodiversity.

A total of 33 students were divided into six groups. Groups 1–5 explored the grasslands during both the fall and spring seasons, while Group 6 focused on the wetlands. Each group documented their observations and findings in a slideshow presentation, seen below.
