About This Event:

Join The Freshkills Park Alliance and The Pride Center of Staten Island in our garden stewardship program! Volunteers will be helping with the garden planning and design process, garden development, and maintenance needs.

Overall Goals:

Volunteers will undertake hands-on learning to identify and plant the different native species present.

Volunteers will learn ecological gardening techniques, increasing understanding of native versus non-native species and the benefits of pollination.

Event & Accessibility Information:

  • Gloves will be available, be prepared to get a little dirty!
  • Walking distance from S44, S59, S61, and S62 bus stops
  • Community service credits available for student volunteer work
  • FKO Studio & Gallery has a gravel parking lot and street parking nearby
  • There will be bathrooms and a cool down area available, volunteers are encouraged to take breaks
  • Volunteers will be working 2 hour shifts at their own pace in small groups, led and supervised by Freshkills staff
  • The meadow area is behind our FKO Studio & Gallery and borders William T Davis Refuge. Bring sunscreen, bugspray, water, snacks, a hat, and comfortable clothes
