In spite of slightly chilly temperatures and some dramatic weather, Freshkills Park volunteers helped host 1,500 people at the May 15th Discovery Day. Visitors, who got to experience the Park in a variety of different ways, were awed and inspired by the landscape. The event received lots of positive comments with many people promising to return for the June 26th event.

Volunteers are encouraged to help visitors explore 700 acres of the future park during the next Discovery Day event at Freshkills Park on June 26th.  This help assisting with event setup, activities, and visitor services is invaluable as Freshkills Park staff host new and returning visitors .

Register to Volunteer at Discovery Day on June 26th:

Free parking is available in the lots near the event entrance at 350 Wild Avenue. A free shuttle will also provide transportation to and from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal in St. George.  Volunteers will receive a free Freshkills Park t-shirt and lunch, as well as our sincere gratitude.

Special thanks to New York Road Runners and New York Cares for their incredible volunteer efforts on May 15th.
