DSEIS Public Hearing
Monday evening, we’ll be holding a public hearing on the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (DSEIS) for the roads system that is to connect across Freshkills Park. The Supplemental EIS is a document that analyzes the potential environmental impacts of the proposed road alignment, construction and phasing, particularly in the East Park section of Freshkills Park, as well as the impacts of alternatives to the proposed alignment. The roads system will require discretionary approvals from state and federal agencies–the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, especially–and this Supplemental EIS (which follows a larger, sitewide EIS released earlier this year) is intended to address the environmental issues and concerns of these agencies.
The hearing is a chance for any member of the public to comment on the draft of the Supplemental EIS before the final draft is prepared. It will be held on Staten Island at Wagner College, Spiro Hall 2 (One Campus Road), Monday, June 22nd, from 7-9pm.
