Deer crossing
Visitors on the Freshkills Park tour are always excited when we mention that there are deer on-site, but they rarely experience a sighting; deer can be shy when large vehicles and groups of people are on the approach. But there have, in fact, been a number of sightings. These his-and-hers portraits were sent on to us by Andy Levison, Communications & Media Coordinator for the Staten Island Borough President‘s office, who was recently out on North Mound for an early morning shoot.
Deer on Staten Island are believed to have swum across the Arthur Kill from New Jersey. They are not necessarily considered a boon to the island’s ecology.
