Brittney Williamson is the Community Engagement Fellow for the Freshkills Park Alliance where she aids and leads programs that engages park enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds with the reclaimed Freshkills landscape by providing historical context about the former Fresh Kills landfill and the environmental and political impact it had on Staten Islanders over the landfill’s 53-year span. During these programs, she enjoys familiarizing visitors with the flora and fauna they may find during their visit to the Freshkills site. Additionally, Brittney conducts outreach to local organizations and individuals whose work aligns with Freshkills’ mission ensuring that Staten Island is a place for all to enjoy, with an emphasis on equity and accessibility. She also spearheads communication about programs, projects, and ecology through social media and other outlets. Brittney received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Philosophy and a Bachelor’s of Science in Security Management from CUNY John Jay College in 2021. Brittney is a native and life-long Staten Islander.
