Run Freshkills Park with New York Road Runners

This summer, New York Road Runners is organizing two free exploratory runs or walks through Freshkills Park! The 3.1 mile and 6.2 mile courses both start and finish near the center of the closed 2,200-acre park. People of all ages are invited to run or walk on trails that take you along waterways and over the hills of the former Fresh Kills Landfill.

A free shuttle bus will transport participants from LA Fitness (145 E. Service Road) to the starting location every 15 minutes from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. A shuttle will return to LA Fitness every 15 minutes from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Participants can also walk to and from LA Fitness. All participants must park in the LA Fitness Lot because there is no parking at Freshkills Park.

All participants must park in the LA Fitness Lot because there is no parking at Freshkills Park.

For this event, free shuttle service will also depart at 7:15 a.m., 7:45 a.m., and 8:15 a.m. from the corner of Richmond Terrace and Schuyler Street (near the Staten Island Ferry Terminal) to Freshkills Park, with return service departing from the visitor center at 9:45 a.m., 10:15 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 11:15 a.m.

New York Road Runners is a non-profit community running organization, founded in 1958, whose mission is to help and inspire people through running.
