Announcing the Freshkills Park T-Shirt Contest Winner

t-shirt

Winning design by Brian Becker

Back in October, we teamed up with Projectivity to request Freshkills Park t-shirt designs for the 2018 season of programs and events. We received nearly two dozen submissions with a range of creative interpretations on the call for designs.

The contest judges were Director of Projectivity Christian Penn, art consultant Monica Valenzuela, and Deputy Director of Public Art for NYC Parks Jennifer Lantzas. They reviewed the designs based on their reflections on the themes of reclaiming, reinterpreting, reimagining, and recycling the land, and the winning entry was chosen based on how well it exemplified the entry requirements.

The winning design was created by Brian Becker, an art director/graphic designer from Staten Island, New York. The image depicts the park’s hills and creeks populated by wildlife and recreational activities. According to Becker, the design “represents Freshkills Park and what it offers the community.”

Thank you to everyone who participated in the t-shirt contest and helped make it a success!
